There is only one step to increase your default level of happiness by at least 20%! Impossible, you say? Ah-ah, not at all, friend. Not when you do one teensy little thing:
Every time you feel down about something (whether it’s about lacking something, not having enough of something, or life not lining up the way you wanted) call to mind 3 things you’re grateful for.
Not later, not after you’re done sulking, no, right then and there.
If you find it difficult, whatever it is you’re doing at the moment, look for things to be thankful for that relates to what you’re doing right now.
Discouraged about an unsuccessful job search while washing your hands?
- Be thankful for the hand soap that keeps you clean and from getting sick!
- Be thankful you have access to fresh water to clean your hands.
- Be thankful you live in an era and place where there is indoor plumbing! That wasn’t the case for the longest time in the history of the human race.
Isn’t that amazing? I certainly think so. :) It totally shifts your focus to something good and true!
A lot of our suffering and misery comes from how much we obsess on what we don’t have that we feel we feel we should. God gives us so many wonderful comforts and daily blessings. It’s just a matter of calling them to mind when we’re tempted to forget.
