How to cultivate peace in your mornings

Breathe in slowly.

With all the hustle and bustle of launching this journey I realized cultivating peace as soon as I wake up is essential to facing the day with a calm heart and a grateful smile.

It sets me in the right frame of mind and helps me navigate unforeseen situations and stress with more grace and patience; both with myself and those around me.

So, I decided to develop a simple routine to be more mindful of how I start the day.  It's immensely gratifying and remarkably easy.  Here's how you can incorporate peace into your mornings in two steps:

Step 1:  Choose something that brings you joy

Soothing music, a delicious drink, your fluffy companion, a gratitude journal, an uplifting podcast...the list is nearly endless.  For me this is actually two somethings: A steamy cup of milk tea and the Bible.  One soothes my body and the other soothes my soul.

Step 2:  Sit in a space that fills you with calm

I call this the safe space.  It can be anywhere from your garden, a favorite armchair, a quiet spot in the house you're drawn to at the end of the day, and so on.

My space is my balcony where I settle in, hands warmed by a mug full of steaming goodness.  I sit overlooking the city as it stirs, just after the sky begins to lighten.  While the air is still crisp, the sky a dove grey, and the thrum of energy dulled to a subdued hum.  Caches of conversation from people walking down the street and the occasional car driving past filter through the still air.  It's wonderful.   Before I leave, I water my little succulents, Benny and Sofia.  After fifteen minutes, I feel refreshed and ready to face the day.

And that's really all there is to it!  The best thing is, it works no matter how much time you have (or don't have) to spare.  Even five minutes with something that brings you joy in a lovely place goes a long way in keeping your energy even keel until sundown.

What about you?  What's your special something?  Where's your safe space?

Your experiences and feelings matter and it's a privilege to read them.  I look forward to reading your response and am so so thrilled to be here with you today for the launch of Where Two Gather.  God bless and talk soon!

Yours faithfully,

Carolyn
